Work in English|SG Dad in Japan
SG Dad in Japan is the website of a Singaporean creator building a new life in Japan with their family. The drafts were written in English, and the site needed to work just as well for Japanese readers. I ran the whole project in English, and rewrote rather than translated.
Bilingual website, project run in English
The challenge
Working in English
A summary of the meetings and emails, from the first conversation to launch.
I met the owner online, between Singapore and Japan. The 40-minute meeting was held entirely in English.
I listed what I had changed and sent it in English with a preview link.
I explained in English how to set up the custom domain, and handled the settings for launch.
I turned open decisions into short questions, and sorted requests that arrived as screen recordings, page by page.
I explained what updating the site alone would involve, and how long each task would take.
When the work took longer than planned, I explained why and invoiced only after approval.
What I built
Each language has its own address, and the text for each language is managed in one place, so one version is never left behind.
After signing in with a Google account, the owner can switch between four color themes, replace the YouTube video on the top page, and manage who has admin access.
On small screens and in LINE's built-in browser, the top photo is lighter so the page opens quickly. Inquiries come in through a Google Form.
The result
The site keeps the creator's own voice, reordered for the web. The Japanese version avoids word-for-word translation and reads naturally to Japanese speakers. YouTube, one-on-one sessions, reports on financial independence and collaboration requests now sit on one site, in both languages.
I can build a website your Japanese customers read naturally, and set it up so you can manage it in English. The first consultation is free: 30 minutes, online.
